UPS Expands Access Point Delivery Option

UPS Inc. is expanding its Access Point shipment pickup option program in more than 90 metropolitan areas this summer to add delivery alternatives for customers and carriers.

The move will add pickup options such as grocery or convenience stores in cities such as Dallas, Denver, Houston and Los Angeles as an alternative to home or business delivery. The intent is to ensure secure deliveries in densely populated areas during extended hours. Access Point is part of My Choice, a program that allows customers to manage package delivery options online.

The Access Point service already is available at more than 4,400 UPS Store locations nationwide.

The package company that ranks No. 1 on the Transport Topics list of the Top 100 largest for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada has targeted a total of 8,000 Access Point locations in the United States by the end of the year.

“By providing local options, we are improving the e-commerce delivery experience, which helps retailers and UPS,” Executive Vice President Alan Gershenhorn said in a statement.

Access Point already is offered in Boston, Chicago, New York City and the Washington, D.C., and San Francisco metropolitan areas.
